SUPERVISOR

Director of Crisis Outreach Services

DEFINITION

Position may be contract, hours will be discussed in interview. This position involves providing crisis intervention for individuals with Serious Mental Illness as part of a team. The employee will be a member of a two-person team which will provide time limited, home-based services. The purpose of the team is to provide immediate, focused services in the community on an as-needed basis to prevent hospitalization, assist with de-escalating crisis situations, and to prevent unnecessary admissions to jails and emergency rooms.

This team operates primarily 3p-11p, with flexibility of hours as needed.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
  • Assess consumers and individuals in crisis and implement clinical and care coordination services.
  • Coordinate with MAMHA team members and community resources to link individuals in crisis to the appropriate level of care.
  • Provide direct in-home intervention services to include individual and family therapy and case management.
  • Perform the function of a mental health therapist by providing mental health services individually. Services include evaluation/assessment, individual and group therapy/counseling, medication monitoring and education, family services, and other clinical services, focusing on mental disorders, environmental stress and family relationships.
  • Provide mobile crisis services to consumers.
  • Participate in staffing of all assigned cases on a regular basis with other treatment team members.
  • Participate in clinical supervision as required.
  • Participate in training activities as required by the Authority to increase and enhance professional and therapeutic skills.
  • Conduct initial intake interviews of clients according to established procedure, assessing the client's problems and needs, and developing treatment plans using strength based, client-centered interventions.
  • Update treatment plans as appropriate, reviewing objectives, goals and interventions.
  • Provide mental health consultation to other agencies or providers assisting the Authority's consumers.
  • Document all services within the Electronic Health Record.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Considerable knowledge of individual and group behavior with special emphasis on mental and emotional disorders.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of counseling.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic drugs concerning their use, misuse, desirable and undesirable effects and research materials available on these drugs.
  • Knowledge of assessing the mental status of individuals in need of mental health services.
  • Considerable knowledge of mental health services and available resources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with consumers, families, hospital staff and community mental health center staff.
  • Ability to work in a proactive, assertive and energetic manner in fulfilling the duties of this position.
  • Ability to work effectively as a treatment team member.
  • Must complete and receive certification in DMH approved in-home and case management training upon hire.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to transport clients.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with other professionals and other agencies.
  • Ability to organize and manage one's own activities with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends if necessary.
  • Willing to participate in on-call services if necessary.
  • Willing to work in non-traditional and in-home settings.
  • Ability to quickly establish rapport with clients.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology. Must be licensed or license eligible. If license eligible, must have LGSW or ALC credential within three months of hire date.
  • Must meet requirements of Medicaid for approved Medicaid Provider Status.
  • Must hold a valid Alabama Driver's License and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the Authority's insurance carrier. Must maintain liability coverage on personal vehicles.

Note: Licensure is a requirement of the position. However, MAMHA will accept individuals who are verified as being license eligible. The agency offers free supervision for ALC's if there are open spaces, otherwise the applicant must seek outside supervision in order to be licensed within three months to remain eligible for the position.
