The Director of Patient Access Services, Pre-Services at Hackensack Meridian Health oversees the pre-service financial aspects of patient care, ensuring accurate verification of insurance, prior authorizations, and understanding of patient financial responsibility. The position works closely with key stakeholders and leadership throughout the department and the designated site hospital location to deliver comprehensive and coordinated access. The position oversees pre-registration, insurance verification, financial clearance, including patient estimates and point of service collections, data integrity, and training.
The position is a key leader who promotes teamwork, encourages innovation, serves as a catalyst for change, and promotes creative solutions by serving as a role model.
The position offers a remote work option.
Responsibilities- Insurance Verification & Authorization:
Oversee the process of verifying patient insurance eligibility and obtaining necessary prior authorizations for procedures. Ensure accurate patient information is collected and verified at scheduling, pre-registration, and registration to ensure seamless access to care. - Financial communication:
Ensure patients understand their financial obligations, including copays, deductibles, and balance responsibilities. - Patient financials:
Collect co-insurance, co-payment, or provide estimated out-of-pocket costs for the service. - Cash collections:
Ensure timely and accurate cash collections across the enterprise and point-of-service collections reconciliation. - Quality Assurance and Training Development:
Monitor, audit, and provide feedback loops for front-end errors, preventative denials, estimates, and point-of-service collections. - Training and EMR management:
Coordinate on-demand training for internal and external customers related to front desk operations; oversee, guide, and facilitate enterprise-wide EMR management and upgrade enhancements. - Strategic leadership:
Establish a clear vision for Access Services and PFS operations aligned with HMH’s vision and values; assess environmental trends, identify opportunities, and communicate goals; develop succession planning and empower teams to execute. - Clinical collaboration:
Review clinical performance of providers annually; advise on referrals to specialists; ensure credentials are complete and current. - Growth mindset:

Education,
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or a related health field.
- Minimum of 8 years experience in front-end revenue cycle.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience.
- Demonstrated experience with IT functionality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain high morale in the workplace.
- Ability to train team members as well as manage and direct as needed.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Skills And Abilities
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Business Management or a related health field.
- Project management experience.
