Position Summary

DEPARTMENT: Clinical Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Psychotherapy Services

LOCATION: Hybrid work arrangement from home office and any office location in Chicago, Evanston, or Northbrook

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT

The Family Institute at Northwestern University is one of the nation’s leading relationship‑based behavioral health organizations committed to strengthening and healing children and adolescents, couples, families, and individuals. We are a team of over 230 collaborators comprising clinicians, educators, researchers, therapists‑in‑training, partners, and administrators across three service sites.

The Role

Provide mental health care that may include work with individuals, couples, and/or families, supporting the mission and vision of The Family Institute and aligning with its core values. The position requires a therapist who is empirically informed, culturally responsive, relationally oriented, and committed to ongoing professional development.

Essential

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide psychotherapy that is empirically informed, theoretically grounded, culturally responsive, and relationally based.
  • Respond promptly to all current or prospective clients and provide referrals when necessary.
  • Perform mental health assessments, identify at‑risk behaviors, and develop appropriate treatment plans.
  • Experience working with couples and families.
  • Document all services in the EHR within established timelines.
  • Build and maintain a caseload by meeting revenue targets.
  • Maintain two years of clinical supervision with satisfactory evaluations.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, external systems, colleagues, and operational staff in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Collaborate with team members on complex or shared cases as appropriate.
  • Support organizational or administrative communication with clients.
  • Attend weekly individual supervision, if required.
  • Attend a weekly peer clinical consultation meeting.
  • Attend monthly Clinical Services meetings and other mandatory meetings.
  • Demonstrate an ongoing investment in professional development and adhere to confidentiality practices and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager for business necessity.

Job Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a class (e.g., guest lecture).
  • Supervise therapist‑in‑training.
  • Participate in a clinical, educational, or research program.
  • Present a topic to external groups (workshop, presentation).
  • Receive meta‑vision (suggested activity).
  • Develop and disseminate a product (e.g., workshop, talk, blog) that drives referrals to The Family Institute.

Minimum Hiring Specifications
  • Master’s Degree in a license‑eligible discipline.
  • Minimum of one‑year post‑graduate experience.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Must be able to compose written reports clearly and effectively.
  • Must be able to remain stationary to attend to computer screen.
  • Must communicate information and ideas so others understand, exchanging accurate information.
  • Must observe details at close range (within a few feet) to perform work‑related duties.
  • Must apply established protocols in a timely manner.
  • Must determine solutions to problems.
  • Must operate successfully while handling multiple projects.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is based on scope and responsibilities. Pay ranges: $56,667.00 – $77,750.09 (unlicensed) and $70,060.00 – $ (licensed). Clinicians have productivity bonus.
