Job Overview
Fairview is looking for a Release of information/HIM 2 to join our dynamic team. This is a full time (80 hours every two weeks) position that will require you to work onsite Wednesday, and remote the remaining days of the week. This is a remote position, benefit eligible, and part of team that 70% if the staff has worked in the department for over 10 years!
This position is responsible for HIM functions supporting the completeness, integrity, and privacy of medical record documentation with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Responsibilities focus on processing written and verbal release of information requests in compliance with Fairview policy; federal, state, and other regulatory requirements. Timely and accurate processing of all work is essential.
Responsibilities- Responds to patient, provider, and third-party phone calls with excellent customer service, accurate information, and reliable follow-through.
- Processes verbal and written requests for medical records each day, including urgent care needs, patient requests, and electronic exchanges such as MyChart or email.
- Supports external care providers by helping them access Fairview health records electronically when urgent patient care is required.
- Retrieves, distributes, and re-files patient health records from paper, microfilm, and microfiche to ensure care teams have the information they need.
- Ensures medical records are complete and available on time to support Revenue Cycle workflows, regulatory requirements, and timely collection of expected payments.
- Follows all organizational policies, including the Revenue Cycle Escalation Policy, safety guidelines, and compliance standards.
- Communicates respectfully, supports patient and caregiver decision-making, and tailors services based on individual and cultural needs.
- Meets all education and training requirements for the role and contributes to a culture of improvement and efficiency.
- Completes special projects and other assigned duties as needed.
- A.A./A.S. in Health Information Management or related field or Two years of experience in an applicable health information management department may substitute for an associate degree
- Working knowledge of EHR systems.
- B.S./B.A. in Health Information Management
- HIT degree and two years in Health Information Management Release of Information.
- Registered Health Info Tech or
- Registered Health Info Admin
