Unit Secretary - Med Surg

Overview

This job performs many functions which support patient care and the department, including admit/discharge/transfer functions, reservation and processing activities, patient calls, and referring requests to appropriate personnel.

It helps enhance the patient experience by ensuring timely follow-up to patient requests and needs.

• Provides clerical support for the department and Interdisciplinary Team.
• Serves as Patient Experience Ambassador for the unit.
• Adapts to rapid changes in the unit/department in a positive, constructive manner.
• Assesses EPIC chart reports to ensure unit charges/utilization are maintained adequately.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy, introductions, explanations of services, permissions, and communication style.
• Other related duties as required.

• Education:
  
  Required - High School diploma or equivalent
• Work Experience:
  
  Preferred - Experience in the medical/healthcare industry
• Certifications:
  
  Preferred - Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

• Must have computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval.
• Effective verbal and written communication and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Proficiency with Windows-style applications and role-specific software, including keyboard proficiency.
• Strong interpersonal skills and thorough understanding of medical terminology.
• Self-directed and able to work independently.
• Ability to exercise good judgment in handling difficult situations.
• Effective planning, organizing, and time management skills.
