Overview

The Role An exciting new opportunity has become available to work as part of our HR team within the National Park Authority. We’re looking for someone to join as our Health, Safety & Wellbeing Officer. You will provide advice, guidance, and practical support on all health, safety and staff wellbeing matters for the Park Authority. You will ensure continuous development of our Health & Safety systems to promote a positive safety culture, while also leading initiatives that enhance employee wellbeing, including mental health, stress management and healthy working practices.

Responsibilities
  • Work across the organisation to ensure compliance with legislation and statutory obligations, providing support and guidance to managers on all Health & Safety matters.
  • Act as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders on Health & Safety issues.
  • Provide advice, support, and relevant management information to the Executive and Operational Managers to ensure organisational compliance.
  • Undertake and produce Health & Safety audit reports to monitor implementation of policies and procedures, acting as the definitive voice of Health & Safety within the organisation.
  • Develop and deliver in-house training for managers and staff on Health & Safety topics.
  • Manage and maintain records of incidents and accidents, producing statistics to identify trends and improvements.
  • Develop, implement, and review Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts to ensure that Risk Assessments are kept up-to-date.
  • Attend the Health & Safety Committee, providing competent advice and guidance.
  • Ensure a comprehensive Health & Safety training structure is in place to promote best practice and risk reduction.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and developments relevant to the Park Authority.
  • Manage all aspects of the Cardinus DSE system.
  • Undertake project-related work, including research, report preparation, and presenting outcomes.
  • Develop and implement a wellbeing strategy aligned with organisational values and Healthy Working Lives accreditation.
  • Promote mental health awareness and resilience through campaigns, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Act as a point of contact for wellbeing queries, signposting staff to appropriate support services.
  • Work with HR and managers to embed wellbeing practices into policies, procedures, and everyday operations.
  • Coordinate wellbeing initiatives such as stress management, healthy lifestyle programs and employee engagement activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate wellbeing programs, reporting on impact and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Keep up to date with best practice and emerging trends in workplace wellbeing.
Who We Are Looking For
  • Experience providing practical Health & Safety advisory services across varied work environments (office, field, maintenance).
  • Comprehensive understanding of current occupational Health & Safety legislation and practice.
  • Experience developing Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Experience delivering wellbeing initiatives or programs in a workplace setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to produce and present formal reports and training sessions.
  • Collaborative approach with patience and diplomacy.
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (or working towards).
  • Driving licence or access to a driver if disability prevents this.
Ideally, But Not Essentially, You’ll Also Have
  • Experience working within the public sector.
  • Experience in an environmental or conservation-based organisation.
  • Knowledge of mental health first aid or wellbeing frameworks.
  • Training or certification in wellbeing or mental health.
