Description
The Certified Surgical Technologist 3 is a key member of the surgical team, serving under the supervision of a licensed professional while taking on advanced responsibilities in patient care. As a competent practitioner, the Certified Surgical Technologist 3 also engages in initiatives beyond the surgical department. Responsibilities include maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring the functionality of equipment, and supporting both invasive and non-invasive procedures to ensure optimal patient safety.
This role demands extensive expertise in aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical tools, and advanced surgical practices, all performed in alignment with the mission and values of Tampa General Hospital.
- Maintain a sterile environment and ensure sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.
- Ensure the functionality and availability of surgical equipment and supplies for procedures.
- Support both invasive and non-invasive procedures to promote patient safety and optimal outcomes.
- Apply extensive knowledge of aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical tools, and advanced surgical practices.
- Demonstrate advanced critical thinking and problem-solving in high-stakes surgical settings.
- Assist in minimizing infection risks and maximizing procedural efficiency through adherence to best practices.
- Participate in the development of best practices and quality improvements within the department or hospital-wide committees (e.g., Laser Safety, Process Improvement, Emergency Response).
- Engage in continuing education, create, organize, and deliver advanced training sessions, and provide in-services or presentations at industry events.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills consistent with the Certified Surgical Technologist role.
- Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Surgical Technology Program OR Military Surgical Technology Program.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent (TS-C) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or relevant certifying body.
- Three (3) years of surgical experience with demonstrated competency in at least five (5) surgical specialties.
- Demonstrates advanced expertise in the first scrub role for complex surgical procedures, with knowledge of advanced techniques and instrumentation.
- Provides mentorship and guidance to peers and junior staff through hands-on training and skill development.
- Applies in-depth knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies, ensuring proper selection, handling, and maintenance for optimal outcomes.
- Uses critical thinking and advanced problem-solving in high-stakes, complex surgical situations to anticipate and address team needs.
- Applies knowledge of aseptic techniques, surgical anatomy, and operative procedures to maintain patient safety and efficiency.
- Participates in departmental or hospital-wide committees focused on quality and safety, such as Laser Safety or Emergency Response.
- Participates in continuing education initiatives and delivers advanced training sessions and staff in-services.
- Maintains an advanced level of knowledge, skills, and abilities expected of a Certified Surgical Technologist.
