Primary Care Mental Health Nurse

Overview

NHS Dumfries & Galloway’s Primary Care Mental Health Service is pleased to be recruiting Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse on a permanent basis. This post offers the opportunity to work within Community Mental Health and gain experience in a primary care setting. The post will cover the existing service and provide support to maintain a continuous service when current staff are on leave.

It is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established team and contribute to service development and transformation.

The post holder will be aligned to Wigtownshire Community Mental Health and based within The Waverly GP Practice, supporting Primary Care in the provision of early assessment and interventions for people with mild to moderate mental health issues.

• Support GP practices with triage and completion of mental health assessments.
• Deliver brief therapeutic interventions and maintain close partnership working with Primary Care, Home teams, Secondary Care Mental Health Services and Third Sector Agencies.
• Work in partnership with patients and carers and have knowledge of local mental health support services.
• Work in a fast-paced environment, manage time effectively, and demonstrate flexibility, enthusiasm and excellent communication skills.
• Engage in opportunities for service development and transformation within the team.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part-time hours will be reduced pro-rata, with a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so pay is not affected.
