Overview
The coder is primarily responsible for performing CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding from appropriate source documents, in accordance with all UFHP, B/AR and department standards related to billing protocols and compliance. The coder is also responsible for training physicians and other staff regarding documentation, billing and coding and for providing feedback to physicians regarding billing practices. The coder may participate with practice management in the oversight of certain practice billing activities as in certain billing follow-up activities.
The coder is responsible for performing various administrative and clerical duties required to support these functions and on an as needed basis, may be required to perform other tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent
- CCS or CPC certification required (must be obtained within one year of employment, if not currently held)
- Knowledge of medical terminology required
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology preferred
- Minimum of six (6) months of prior physician coding and abstracting experience required
