Emergency Department; ED Outpatient Coder – Remote

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department (ED) Outpatient Coder to accurately code outpatient emergency services in compliance with official coding guidelines, payer requirements, and organizational policies. This role is fully remote and ideal for detail-oriented coders with strong ED and outpatient experience.

Pay: $45/hour

Location: Fully Remote

Job Type: 6 month contract-to-hire

• Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for Emergency Department outpatient encounters
• Review provider documentation to ensure complete, accurate, and compliant coding
• Apply correct modifiers and ensure proper charge capture
• Meet productivity and quality benchmarks while maintaining coding accuracy
• Follow official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, and payer-specific requirements
• Identify documentation gaps and work with providers or internal teams as needed
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
• Stay current on coding updates, regulations, and best practices related to ED outpatient coding

• Active coding certification (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)
• Minimum 3–5 years of Emergency Department outpatient coding experience
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines
• Experience coding high-volume ED encounters
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Strong attention to detail and time-management skills
• Proficiency with EHR systems and encoder tools

• CCS credential
• Experience with multiple payers, including Medicare and Medicaid
• Prior remote coding experience
• Familiarity with audit processes and quality reviews

• $45/hour pay rate
