You will serve as a Health Facility Surveyor with the Health Care Surveillance Branch, Healthcare Licensing and Surveys, Wyoming Department of Health, conducting surveys and investigating complaints statewide according to Wyoming State Statutes in agreement with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Essential FunctionsThe listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
- Performs standard and abbreviated surveys such as initial licensure and certification surveys, recertifications surveys, complaint investigations, and follow-up surveys.
- Ensure the survey process is implemented correctly and efficiently.
- Interprets regulations and guidance from the State Operations Manual and other federal/state guidelines. Performs complaint intakes, assesses, and documents regulatory problems.
- Determines regulatory category for complaint allegations.
- Reports findings to the Team Coordinator or, when working independently, to the Supervisor. Evaluates plans of correction and communicates approval or concerns to facility leadership.
- Provides oral or written technical assistance to a variety of healthcare provider types.
- Participates in in-service education, as well as other educational opportunities related to the survey process.
- Extensive statewide travel to and from survey sites.
Preference may be given to registered nurses with experience in nursing homes, hospitals, home health agencies, hospice, ambulatory surgical centers, or dialysis facilities. The agency requires the successful applicant to be licensed as an RN by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing. The agency requires completing the CMS Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) within 6 months of employment.
Knowledge- Knowledge of healthcare standards, medical conditions (acute and chronic), medical procedures, mental health needs, and quality of life.
- Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for certifying and licensing healthcare facilities.
Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Healthcare)
Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist OR
Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Healthcare) with knowledge at the level of a Health Program Specialist

Physical Working Conditions- Extensive statewide travel to and from survey sites.
