Overview
Family Support Specialist I and Family Support Specialist II roles describe home-based prevention services focusing on supporting the parent-child relationship, attachment, and family enhancement through child development education, play, goal setting, assessments, and coordination of services for families. The Family Support Specialist II provides mentoring to new specialists and operates under general supervision, while the I operates under direct supervision.
The ideal candidate is bilingual in Spanish and English and has experience in supporting children and families. They should have an understanding of child growth and development and the importance of parent-child relationships, be resourceful, and able to help families navigate community resources. The role values being relational, a strong communicator, a multi-tasker, and team-oriented.
Please note: Pay for this position is dependent on qualifications.
The Hiring Range For The Position Is:
- Family Support Specialist I - $48,680.32 to $51,114.33
- Family Support Specialist II - $52,236.08 to $54,847.88
Healthy Families Family Support Specialist I
- Conducts home visits virtually or in-person and assesses family needs and provides case management services, when necessary, while promoting self-sufficiency
- Utilizes child development curricula with each family and promote positive parent-child relationships
- Utilizes floor time to support play within the parent and child relationship
- Utilizes appropriate limit setting and boundaries
- Maintains necessary assessments and documentation in accordance with County and funding source requirements
- Participates in and comes prepared for weekly supervision with Program Supervisor
- Coordinates with other community services
- Attends and participates in all scheduled Healthy Families conferences, seminars, in-service training and parent events
- Maintains all Healthy Families quality assurance standards, i.e. home visitation rate, etc.
- Participates in agency Continuous Quality Improvement activities
- Performs related duties as assigned
Healthy Families Family Support Specialist II
- Performs the duties of a Family Support Specialist I
- Participates in a County, community or Healthy Families Arizona committee
- Actively supports the Supervisor in onboarding new Family Support Specialists and mentoring with community resources, curriculum, home visiting and paperwork
- Provides administrative support to Program Supervisor as assigned, including supporting case staffing management and chart reviews as assigned
- Observe a Program Supervisor during weekly supervision with staff at least twice a year
- Observe end of month completion at least twice a year
- Remains up to date on best practices and emerging trends in home visiting programs and services
- May be responsible for the development of additional trainings as required for the population(s) served
- May be responsible for assigning and reviewing the work of others
- Other duties as required by the County or the Program Supervisor
Essential functions include but are not limited to driving; sitting for computer entry, typing, answering telephones, etc.; working with and around other staff, administration, and citizens; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand/wrist) for computer and phone work; vision acuity; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; touch and finger dexterity for using radios, intercoms, telephones and computers.
Minimum QualificationsFamily Support Specialist I
High school diploma and two years of work experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to provide proof of education (High School diploma or equivalent or College degree/transcripts)
- Must have a valid Arizona driver s license, vehicle and proof of current and valid motor vehicle insurance. Final job offer contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report
- Must be eligible and able to obtain/maintain a Level 1 fingerprint clearance card
- Must be able to be certified in CPR/First Aid
- Final job offer contingent upon a clear pre-employment drug test
- This position is non-exempt from overtime
Family Support Specialist II
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or related fields (Nursing or Early Childhood Education) and one year of experience OR
- Three years’ experience as a Family Support Specialist I
If promoting from a Family Support Specialist I position, the following must be completed before promotion to the Family Support Specialist II position:
- Completion of Healthy Families America Quick Start, Stop-Gap, 12 months Wrap-Around, FSS Foundations for Family Support Core and annual Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging trainings
