Position: CAMHS Early Help Practitioner (Maternity Cover)

Overview

22.5 hours per week. 6 month Fixed Term Maternity Cover. This is an exciting opportunity for a band 5 professionally registered clinician to work within the CAMHS Early Help Pathway, working with children, young people and families as a CAMHS Early Help Practitioner. The post holder will join an established CAMHS team supporting early intervention services, providing assessments and targeted short term interventions of up to 8 sessions within the I-THRIVE model, with a focus on early intervention.

The post holder is responsible for supporting the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of children and young people and will promote resilience, prevention and early intervention in line with the 2015 Future in Mind strategic vision for CAMHS. This role involves some consultation, contributes to the CAMHS advice line, and has access to a hybrid model of office/clinical space and remote work.

A professional registration is required.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the early help pathway locality to engage with children and young people who may present with emerging mental health difficulties.
  • Deliver evidence based, targeted interventions (1-1 and group) in a timely manner and implement Routine Outcome Measures (ROMS) effectively.
  • Provide timely assessments and represent CAMHS in multi-agency meetings to oversee mental health elements within a multi-agency plan for a child.
  • Participate in the delivery of CAMHS training programmes for schools and community services; maintain standards of care within available resources.
  • Participate in line management with senior and junior staff; liaise with CAMHS pathways across the city; develop and maintain relationships with providers (statutory and non-statutory).
  • Maintain confidentiality and communicate clearly with children, young people, families and other health professionals about mental health concerns.
  • Contribute to clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives and ensure person-centred planning and involvement of children and families in decision making.
  • Provide mentorship for students by acting as supervisor/assessor where appropriate.
  • Deliver training to community services and schools and support early help assessment clinics to ensure timely access to assessments and interventions.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Essential:
    Core degree qualification in a mental health modality (e.g., Nursing / Social Work / OT) with relevant experience; current professional registration (NMC/HCPC or equivalent).
  • Essential:
    Post-registration experience with children and young people who have mental health difficulties; experience with risk assessment and multi-agency working; ability to manage a caseload autonomously.
  • Desirable: IT skills and familiarity with relevant programmes; post-graduate training in child and adolescent mental health, counselling, systemic practice, or supervision/assessor training.
  • Knowledge of the I-THRIVE model; ability to travel across the Livewell footprint; flexible working as required.
