We are expanding recruitment and are looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable and motivated Assistant Psychologist to join our friendly team at HMP Channings Wood. Our healthcare team delivers Mental Health, Physical Health, Pharmacy and Clinical Substance Misuse in an integrated model to provide effective and responsive care and support better outcomes for patients’ future resettlement back into the community.
The role is part of the NHS AfC framework with opportunities for career and personal development. This is a 20 hours per week role with a flexible pattern (ideally 2 shifts one week and 3 shifts the next).
- Support and enhance the professional psychological care of offenders within the service, including psychological assessment and interventions under supervision, and work independently according to a plan agreed with the qualified psychologist.
- Assist in clinically related administration, audits, data collection, development of audit/research projects, and teaching.
- Provide psychological therapy services to service users residing in HMP Channings Wood as part of the integrated mental health team.
- Contribute to a range of psychological services from self-help literature to individual and group therapies within a trauma-informed care model.
- Assist in design and implementation of service development projects; attend planning meetings for service developments.
- Undertake psychological assessments using theory, neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, structured interviews, with clients, families and others involved in care.
- Assist in formulation and delivery of care plans involving psychological treatment/management under supervision.
- Assist in coordinating and running therapeutic groups or clinical projects.
- Collaborate with other staff to assess or support service users in the prison and contribute to multidisciplinary care guidelines as agreed with supervision.
- Contribute to developing a psychological framework of understanding and care across settings.
- Assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects; collect and analyse data and produce reports; create graphs/charts to summarise data.
- Produce user-friendly information for interventions with clients.
- Receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional guidelines; gain broader NHS experience beyond the principal service area; develop skills and competencies relevant to current duties.
- Contribute to training and support of other staff in psychological care.
- All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting to work in a prison setting. This will be completed as part of pre-employment checks.
- Provide proof of right to work, proof of identity (including one photographic ), proof of address, and any required documentation for non-UK passport holders (right to work and a Home Office share code). Five years of address history may be required.
- Overseas police checks or certificates of good conduct may be required for applicants who have lived abroad within the last three years.
