The Mental Health Legislation team is looking for a motivated and hardworking advisor to support the smooth running of this specialist team.

You will work with the Mental Health Legislation Team to ensure that clinical staff receive timely and expert advice and training on the Mental Health Act 1983. This is a corporate role supporting clinical services to develop their use of the Mental Health Act and confidently understand their responsibilities afforded to them by the legislation, often in time pressured and distressing circumstances.

Analysing data and making connections between recurrent events and the cause of themes and trends across the legal and MHA aspects will allow you to successfully progress quality improvement projects to ensure that human rights are upheld, people are protected, and communities are safer.

Main duties of the job

You will work with a range of key professionals and partner agencies to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the Trust's specialist MHA Legislation function, and they will also be part of future projects monitoring, understanding, and educating the Trust on key legislative developments.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Law degree or recognised certificate in Mental Health Law or relevant equivalent experience. Candidates who can demonstrate a strong MHA and Coroners knowledge base and who hold relevant experience in a similar role will be considered

  • Managing a team
  • Accurate recording of complex information under pressure
  • Organising events/meetings, diary scheduling and emails
  • Dealing with challenging people
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining manual and electronic databases, filing/administrative and recording systems to a high standard
  • Communication at all levels
  • Preparing and drafting legal documents to a high standard under minimal supervision
  • Delivery of training or public speaking/presentations
Skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Mental Health Act
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Taking detailed witness statements
  • Ability to draft legal documents to a high standard under minimal supervision
  • Highly organised
  • Public speaking (presentation and training delivery)
