Residential Support Worker – Short Breaks Service (Children with Additional Needs)

Location: Barnsley

Contract: Temporary (3 months)

Hours: Up to 37 hours per week

Pay Rate: £15.84 per hour

Shift Patterns:

  • Early: 07:00 – 14:30
  • Late: 14:00 – 22:00
  • Waking Nights: As required
  • Weekend working required
About the Role

We are looking for experienced Residential Support Workers to join our Short Breaks Overnight Service in Barnsley. You will be supporting children with additional needs, complex health conditions, and learning difficulties/disabilities in a warm, home-based environment.

This role is all about providing compassionate, safe, and high-quality care. You will work closely with each child to meet their individual needs, offering both practical assistance and emotional support to ensure their short-break stay is positive, safe, and enriching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver person-centred care to children accessing short breaks.
  • Support children with complex health needs
    , including PEG feeding and administering buccal midazolam.
  • Use hoists and mobility equipment safely and confidently.
  • Work closely with families and professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Keep accurate records and contribute to individual care plans.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the wellbeing of every child.
Essential Requirements
  • Recent experience working within a short breaks service for children
    .
  • Training and competency in:
  • PEG feeding
  • Use of hoists
  • Buccal midazolam administration
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and waking nights.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting children with:
  • Autism
  • Physical disabilities
  • Complex medical needs
