This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of the multi-disciplinary Diabetes Service at Cambridge University hospital, NHS Trust.
We are seeking a compassionate registered Nurses with clinical knowledge and practical experience of diabetes care. A strong interest in developing a proactive approach to the delivery of high standards of evidence-based care is essential.
You will join a multidisciplinary team to carry out nursing roles and responsibilities for people with diabetes both in an inpatient and outpatient setting. You will be required to work as a skilled practitioner assessing, implementing and evaluating treatment and care, based on best evidence based clinical practice in a range of settings.
The team is responsible for managing routine and urgent inpatient ward referrals and providing both opportunistic and organised education to health care professionals. For those applicants who are not already trained, there will be the opportunity to train in the delivery of structured education courses for people living with diabetes. You will be expected to either have experience in or be willing to train in supporting people in the use of hybrid closed loop insulin pump technologies.
The service provides a number of routine and specialist outpatient clinics including, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes clinics, preconception, antenatal, insulin pump therapy, multidisciplinary foot, Severe insulin resistance, MODY and young adult clinics.
This is advertised as Band 7 role but for the right applicant who does not meet all of the competencies expected to fulfil a Band 7 role, we would consider offering a Band 6-7 progression post. Main duties of the job- The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty of Diabetes, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures.
- Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students.
- Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care.
- Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area.
- There is an expectation you can cover all general areas of the service if required, for more specialist elements of the service training would be provided.
