Job Summary
The Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS) is seeking a motivated Biomedical Scientist (BMS) to work in the busy, friendly Point of Care Testing (POCT) department at Hull Royal Infirmary
.
Within the SHYPS network, the POCT team covers multiple sites in the Hull area and provides a comprehensive service to Secondary and Tertiary care sites in Hull and East Yorkshire. POCT will be extended into the community in the near future and remote working will form part of this role, making a willingness to travel essential.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will work with the POCT Specialist and Senior BMS to oversee and complete the day‑to‑day activities of the POCT department and associate practitioner staff. Key duties include:
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of POCT equipment.
- Oversee stock levels of reagents and consumables in all analytical areas.
- Work efficiently following departmental health and safety procedures and report any problems to the line manager.
- Maintain personal proficiency and competencies, and take part in training to keep knowledge of equipment and techniques up to date.

Person SpecificationExperience and Knowledge (Essential)
- Has experience working in an NHS laboratory.
Experience and Knowledge (Desirable)
- Experience in an NHS POCT department.
Education and Qualifications (Essential)
- BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science accredited by the IBMS or equivalent.
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
Education and Qualifications (Desirable)
- IBMS Specialist Diploma in a Pathology discipline.
