The Pittsgrove Township School District is seeking qualified candidates to fill the following vacancy for the school year:
- TITLE: DISTRICT PHYSICAL THERAPIST
- Job Summary: The School District Physical Therapist is responsible for providing physical therapy services to students with disabilities, aged 3-21, within the school setting. The primary goal is to enhance students' ability to access and benefit from their educational program by addressing their gross motor skills, mobility, and functional independence. This role involves assessment, treatment planning, direct and indirect services, collaboration with educational teams, and compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Qualifications:
- Doctorate or Master's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
- Valid state license to practice physical therapy.
- Certification by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is preferred.
- Experience working with children with disabilities in a school or pediatric setting.
- Knowledge of IDEA and other relevant special education laws and regulations.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct comprehensive physical therapy evaluations to determine students' gross motor abilities, functional limitations, and need for services.
- Utilize standardized assessments and clinical observations to gather data and develop individualized education program (IEP) goals.
- Interpret assessment results and communicate findings to parents, teachers, and other team members.
- IEP Development and Implementation:
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of measurable and functional goals related to physical therapy.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings and IEP goals.
- Provide direct physical therapy services to students, including therapeutic exercise, gait training, assistive technology training, and other interventions.
- Monitor and document student progress towards IEP goals.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, school nurses, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated and integrated approach to student services.
- Provide consultation and training to school staff on topics related to gross motor development, lifting and positioning, and the use of adaptive equipment.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, treatment plans, and home-based activities.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development workshops.
- Assistive Technology and Adaptive Equipment:
- Evaluate students' needs for assistive technology and adaptive equipment, such as walkers, wheelchairs, and orthotics.
- Provide training to students and staff on the proper use and maintenance of assistive technology.
- Recommend and help to acquire needed equipment.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant documentation.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
- Adhere to professional ethical standards.
- Evaluate school environments for accessibility and make recommendations for modifications.
- Help to ensure that students have access to all areas of the school.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
- TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months, Salary and benefits as determined by the board of education.
