Position: 232885 Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)

232885 Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)

NHS Dumfries and Galloway is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our expert team at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. This role will be as part of the medical assessment and hospital at night team. This is a permanent Band 7 position at 30 hours, offering a unique and rewarding opportunity to contribute to a well established and forward‑thinking AP service.

You will play a vital role in delivering expert, patient centred care in a dynamic emergency setting, where your advanced clinical skills and decision‑making will make a real difference.

We are looking for a professional who holds a minimum of a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Practice and is an independent prescriber. You will be expected to demonstrate advanced clinical knowledge, sound judgement, and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Your responsibilities will include delivering high‑quality care within agreed protocols and, when necessary, making independent clinical decisions guided by best practice.

Development

Opportunity

We are also pleased to consider applications for a Trainee ANP position. This will be offered at Band 6 on a 23‑month fixed‑term basis, progressing to Band 7 upon successful completion of the required qualifications (minimum postgraduate diploma in Advanced Practice with independent prescribing). The trainee ANP post is 35 hours per week; when training is complete this post will become a permanent Band 7 position at 30 hours.

As part of this development pathway, successful candidates will be required to sign a bonding agreement, committing to remain with NHS Dumfries and Galloway for two years following completion of training. Should employment end before this period, a proportion of training costs will be repayable on a sliding scale.
