Patient Services Advisor – Martock & South Petherton Medical Centre

Symphony Healthcare Services is looking to recruit a Patient Services Advisor (phone and administration duties) for Martock Surgery and South Petherton Medical Centre.

Job Summary

The role involves assisting patients over the phone, managing appointments, handling repeat prescriptions and providing general administrative support to the hub covering multiple practices.

37.5 hours vacancy; 5 days a week. Can be a single full‑time post or two part‑time posts.

Pay: £12.65 – £12.95 per hour, starting salaries based on experience.

Main Duties
  • Provide courteous, calm and effective communication over the phone.
  • Perform accurate and methodical administration tasks.
  • Assist patients in accessing appropriate services or healthcare professionals.
  • Prioritise own workload and meet competing deadlines.
  • Alert management/clinical staff to quality, risk and safeguarding issues.
  • Use IT packages such as MS Outlook, Word, etc.
Key Requirements
  • Computer literate with good keyboard skills.
  • Excellent listening, communication and writing skills.
  • Strong organisational and detail‑oriented.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage interruptions.
  • Initiative and teamwork.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and NHS/General Practice (desirable).
Qualifications
  • English & Maths GCSE or equivalent (grade A*–D).
Experience
  • Experience working in a team.
  • Recognise urgency, act appropriately, follow policies.
  • Customer‑focused environment (desirable).
  • Administration team experience (desirable).
  • NHS or similar health‑care setting (desirable).
  • Awareness of clinical systems such as EMIS (desirable).
