About The Job
The Professional Outpatient Coding Educator will provide outpatient coding education and monitor quality initiatives for the coding department and Elliot Health System providers. This position plays a strategic role in validating the accuracy of CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS coding done by both coders and providers. This position is actively involved in the dissemination of coding requirements and updates to appropriate stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
- Perform operational functions of the Coding Education program, which includes tracking quality metrics, monitoring programs, and implementing coding education initiatives for all coders and medical staff to support the health system’s mission
- Perform coding quality audits of records for CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS code assignment
- Document and review recommended coding changes with appropriate management and staff
- Identify trends and patterns in coding and documentation variances and provide education
- Develop and present education materials to coders and providers
- Enhance and improve Clinical Documentation Improvement programs by working closely with coders and providers

Who You Are
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management (HIM) or related field, Required
- 5+ years of coding experience, preferably in a multi-specialty group practice
- AAPC Coding Certification(s), CPC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS-P, Required
- Experience/knowledge with healthcare coding and documentation audits and appeals
- Ability to meet deadlines consistently and reliably
