Consultant Cellular Pathologist – NHS Highland
Applications are invited for a Consultant to join the Cellular Pathology Department at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. This position is available on a ten‑programme activity basis, but part‑time candidates will also be considered. It is a replacement post and the successful applicant will join six other substantive consultants to fully staff the department in providing core cellular pathology services in the Highlands and Islands.
The department provides a balanced mixture of sub‑specialist and generalist reporting. The successful applicant will be expected to take part in the general rota and have a broad base of reporting skills. Potential applicants are encouraged to discuss areas of interest and how these may be accommodated in line with current departmental interests and service requirements. The department provides an extra‑contractual autopsy service to the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit, and teaching opportunities for undergraduates and postgraduates are available.
There is no requirement to report cervical cytology.
The department is fully computerised, using the Cirdan Ultra Laboratory Information Management System. Remote working and imaging sharing were demonstrated in a 2020 pilot, and Philips digital pathology equipment and a networked Macropath digital imaging system are now in place.
