Position Overview
Occupational Therapist II – Fort Logan, State of Colorado. Position open to Colorado residents only. The occupational therapy services are provided in a 24‑hour state psychiatric hospital for individuals voluntarily and involuntarily committed for treatment. The facility serves adult patients 18‑59 with complex, serious, and persistent mental illness and other co‑occurring conditions.
Responsibilities- Provide occupational therapy assessment, treatment, programming, and consultation throughout the hospital using occupational therapy assessment tools and evidence‑based practices.
- Deliver therapeutic group interventions, specialized assessments, individual interventions, and community outings when indicated.
- Develop individualized treatment plans and implement, review, and modify treatment plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Document assessments, re‑assessments, treatment progress, and discharge planning in the behavioral electronic health record (BEHR) and prescribe functional goals using SMART criteria.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and participate in quality and performance improvement activities.
- Consult hospital‑wide for all OT‑related patient needs and referrals and provide education, training, and modeling to multidisciplinary teams.
- Participate in the Occupational Therapy Internship Program offered at CMHHIFL.
- Assist with hospital‑wide ad hoc activities and milieu support as assigned.
- Current, valid Colorado State licensure or certification related to occupational therapy.
- One (1) year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
- Must possess an unencumbered OT license to practice in CO via the CO Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) and obtain a CO OT license before hire.
- Minimum age 21 years.
- Graduated from an ACOTE accredited program with a degree in occupational therapy.
- Experience working as a licensed Occupational Therapist with the adult SMI (or SPMI) population in civil or forensic inpatient settings.
- Experience with the recovery model and trauma‑informed care approaches.
- Experience with adult populations who have mental illness diagnoses and/or other brain disorders (e.g., dementia, I/DD, history of TBI) and co‑occurring physical conditions.
- Current or previous State employee.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Motor Vehicle Check required if employee will drive a state‑owned vehicle; valid non‑restricted Colorado Driver’s License required for those operating within 30 miles of the Colorado border.
- Travel may be required for training, court hearings, patient appointments, and related activities.
- TB screening and annual influenza vaccination required; other vaccinations as required by the State of Colorado.
- Full background check including name, fingerprint, court database, Medicare fraud, and other relevant checks.
