Pharmacy Manager – Brand New State‑of‑the‑Art Hospital – Cambridge

£60,000 DOE + Competitive Company Benefits

Full‑time, Permanent – 40 hours per week.

Lead the pharmacy department at Welbeck Health Partners’ brand‑new Cambridge hospital. You will build your own team, develop department policies, and ensure the highest standards of patient care and medicines management.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure full compliance with GPhC, MHRA, CQC, and national medicines management guidance.
  • Lead the quality‑assurance agenda for Home Office Licence and CQC compliance with the Superintendent Pharmacist.
  • Promote evidence‑based, cost‑effective prescribing and medicines management in partnership with prescribers.
  • Safeguard patient health, safety, and wellbeing by maintaining a high‑quality clinical environment.
  • Monitor and report medication incidents, conduct root cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and review safe‑handling, prescribing, dispensing, and storage policies and SOPs.
  • Manage pharmacy staff—including pharmacists, technicians, and dispensers—ensuring rota coverage and workforce planning.
  • Provide training and ensure compliance with clinical training requirements.
  • Support staff through guidance, mentorship, and professional registration/revalidation assistance.
  • Lead recruitment, supervision, and performance management of the pharmacy team.
  • Ensure GPhC Code of Professional Conduct compliance.
  • Support medicines optimisation and electronic prescribing implementation.
  • Manage the pharmacy budget, procurement, stock management, and cost control.
  • Provide advice to consultants and healthcare professionals on safe, appropriate, and cost‑effective medicines use.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Registered pharmacist or pharmacy technician with current GPhC registration and a postgraduate qualification.
  • Demonstrable pharmacy management experience and leadership within a clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of medicines legislation, governance frameworks, and clinical standards.
  • Experience with GPhC Code of Professional Conduct and ethical practice.
  • Clinical knowledge, ideally with surgical exposure.
  • Desire to develop new high‑quality pharmacy services.
  • Dispensary working experience and skill set.
  • IT and data analysis proficiency.
  • Experience of CQC inspections and/or readiness.
  • Leadership to implement clinical best practice.
  • Ability to lead audits, investigations, and quality improvement projects.
  • Excellent people‑management, adaptability, communication, collaboration, integrity, resilience, and organisational skills.
