Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for LGBTQ+ Migrants

INC., an immigrant LGBTQ+ nonprofit organization, is seeking qualified and compassionate individuals for the role of Remote Multi-lingual Mental Health Counselor. As a counselor, you will provide remote counseling services in English and any other language to LGBTQ+ individuals within the Immigrant community who are seeking support for their mental health and well-being.

Responsibilities
  • Remote Counseling Services
    • Conduct remote counseling sessions via phone or video conferencing platforms.
    • Offer culturally sensitive and inclusive counseling to address mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, self‑identity, and relationship challenges.
    • Create a safe and non‑judgmental space for clients to share their experiences and emotions.
    • Utilize active listening skills to understand clients' needs and concerns.
    • Provide appropriate interventions and strategies to help clients improve their mental well‑being.
  • Multi‑lingual Communication
    • Communicate fluently in both English and any other language to ensure effective counseling sessions.
    • Translate and interpret accurately between languages, ensuring clear communication between the counselor and the client.
    • Bridge language barriers and cultural differences to foster understanding and connection with clients.
  • Assessments and Treatment Planning
    • Conduct initial assessments to gather relevant information about clients' mental health history, concerns, and goals.
    • Collaborate with clients to develop personalized treatment plans based on their individual needs and strengths.
    • Monitor clients' progress throughout the counseling process and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Referrals and Resources
    • Provide appropriate referrals to other mental health professionals, support groups, or community resources as needed.
    • Maintain knowledge of available resources and services for LGBTQ+ individuals within the Immigrant community.
    • Assist clients in accessing additional support systems to enhance their overall well‑being.
  • Documentation and Confidentiality
    • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date client records and documentation in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
    • Ensure the confidentiality and privacy of client information, following organizational policies and guidelines.
Requirements

Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field. Current enrollment in a counseling program with relevant experience will also be considered.

Valid counseling license or certification (if applicable) or eligibility for licensure.

Multi‑lingual proficiency in English and any other language, including strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.

Knowledge and understanding of the unique experiences and challenges faced by the Immigrant LGBTQ+ community.

Experience in providing mental health counseling, preferably with diverse populations and LGBTQ+ individuals.

Familiarity with remote counseling platforms and technology for conducting sessions.

Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to build rapport with clients.

Ability to maintain professional boundaries, practice confidentiality, and adhere to ethical guidelines.

This is a volunteer position with flexible scheduling, requiring a commitment of 10 hours or sessions per week, based on availability. Volunteer counselors will receive ongoing support and supervision from the organization.
