The PSU Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a nationally accredited healthcare facility that offers medical, counseling, dental, health promotion/education, and confidential advocacy services to students of Portland State University. The center consists of over 100 clinical and administrative staff.
Confidential Advocacy is part of the Administrative Services department within the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC). This program addresses sexual and gender based violence at PSU by providing trauma informed support for students. Students are supported with connections, resources, information, and campus-coordinated response efforts at all institutional levels.
The Confidential Advocacy Coordinator at the Center for Student Health and Counseling is responsible for leading the campus advocacy program responsible for supporting students affected by gender-based violence: dating/domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and stalking. This position works in collaboration with the SHAC Associate Director for Clinic Operations and campus partners to ensure the effective delivery of direct services to students and to foster a culture of safety and respect within the PSU community.
This is an in-person position with no option for remote work. In accordance with the AAUP collective bargaining agreement this position is open only to current PSU AAUP academic professionals. Article 17 Section 11 refers.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, counseling, psychology, or related fields and 3 years of experience in providing trauma-informed response services.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, counseling, psychology, or related fields and 2 years of experience in providing trauma-informed response services on a college campus or similar agency.
- Demonstrated understanding of current best practices in responding to interpersonal trauma and campus-related sexual violence.
- Demonstrated ability to use clear and independent judgment, make ethical decisions regarding case management, and develop individualized approaches for each survivor.
- Possess, or be willing to obtain within the first three months of being hired, the required state-level certifications for campus advocacy.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with campus, community, state-wide, and national partners.
- Must successfully pass a background check
- Master’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, counseling, psychology, or related fields
- Experience working in a college campus setting or similar agency
- Additional related trainings or certifications (ex. Certified Danger Assessment Provider, Trauma Informed Care)
