Overview
Clinical Dietitian-Inpatient - Nutritional Services - Kings Hwy - PRN role at Ochsner LSU Health. This role coordinates the nutritional care of patients, completes nutritional assessments, prepares nutrition care plans, recommends nutritional therapies, and monitors the effectiveness of nutritional care. Provides nutrition education to promote improved health and complies with regulatory requirements. Attends committee meetings as assigned and participates in in-services and continuing education programs.
Responsibilities- Assess patients’ nutritional needs and create nutrition care plans.
- Provide nutritional education and counseling to patients and families.
- Document records completely and accurately.
- Support departmental goals and adapt interactions to the specific patient population (privacy, introductions, communication, permissions).
- Contribute to community education, marketing, and public relations efforts as assigned.
- Attend committee meetings as assigned and participate in in-services and continuing education programs.
- Other related duties as required.
- Minimum Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field. - Required:
Registered Dietitian status with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and current license as Dietitian/Nutritionist (LBEDN) or eligibility with obligation to obtain licensure within 12 months of hire. - Current licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist status with LBEDN.
- Preferred: 1 year of clinical work experience with knowledge of normal and therapeutic nutrition, nutrition screening and support principles, and modified diets.
- Minimum Certification:
Must meet examination eligibility requirements to become a Registered Dietitian with CDR and be provisionally licensed LBEDN; must pass the registration exam and become licensed within 12 months of hire. - Knowledge,
Skills and Abilities
(KSAs): computer skills for data entry and information retrieval; effective verbal and written communication; proficiency with Windows-based applications; strong interpersonal skills; commitment to evidence-based practice; strong organizational and prioritization skills; ability to travel between facilities.
Medium work – exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 to 25 pounds frequently; potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue; work in patient care areas with potential exposure to communicable diseases; may involve occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or waste.
