Rethink Trade Advocacy & Communications Associate

Overview

Economic Liberties seeks an Advocacy & Communications Associate to join its Rethink Trade team. This position will help to run dynamic campaigns and advocate for policy solutions, with a focus on engaging policymakers and opinion leaders. This role reports to the Rethink Trade Director. Primary responsibilities will include:

• Identify opportunities to engage with members of Congress, labor unions and other partner organizations and stakeholders to promote organizational goals, including by proactively crafting outreach materials and organizing briefings and events.
• Manage distribution of analytical and campaign materials and correspondence with allied organizations, federal agencies, and congressional staff.
• Monitor media coverage of trade policies agreements, outcomes, and abuses to identify trends and opportunities for rapid response and creative campaigns and tactics that engage our partners and support organizational goals.
• Track progress of internal projects across departments and ensure they move through the pipeline in a timely manner.
• Assist in crafting communications materials, such as press releases and memos.
• Support the organization’s engagement in existing and future coalition efforts.
• Help lead special projects as assigned.

• At least 3 years of policy experience, preferably including experience working on economic or business-related issues, or Hill Experience.
• General knowledge of how Capitol Hill functions. Congressional experience a plus.
• Fundamental economic literacy, with knowledge about trade, manufacturing, agriculture, tech or econometrics a plus
• Strong writing skills and the ability to synthesize complex topics into long and short form pieces for diverse audiences and concise talking points for staff.
• Some experience in communications work, such as writing press releases and other public materials.
• Strong organizational skills that reflect an ability to keep track of multiple tasks, meet competing deadlines, and actively communicate potential conflicts to colleagues.
• Demonstrated ability to shift comfortably between working with a team on larger projects and working independently on assigned daily duties.
• Interest in politics and an awareness of the day-to-day political developments.
• Sense of curiosity about how international trade works and ways public policy could help decentralize economic power.

The Communications and Advocacy Associate is a full-time exempt position with an annual salary of $57,000 - $67,000, depending on experience. This position is based in Washington, DC. Applications for remote work will not be considered.
