This position is based out of Feeding America’s Washington, DC office. We offer a flexible work environment: employees can be in the office an average of 2 days a week and work from home on other days. Employees also have access to a 30‑day “work anywhere” program that can be combined with PTO and/or holidays.
The OpportunityThe EVP, Government Affairs & Policy will lead the development and implementation of integrated strategies across federal nutrition programs, federal and state level policy, and advocacy aligned with Feeding America’s priorities. Working closely with network members, the EVP will inform the development and execution of these strategies, strengthen network capacity, and coordinate advocacy actions to support nutrition program and policy priorities.
The role integrates stakeholder engagement and coalition building in support of Feeding America’s policy and advocacy priorities across the national organization, with network partners and external partners.
Salary range: $230,000 - $242,000 (based on experience). The range represents the starting to mid‑point salaries for positions at this level and candidates should expect a salary near the starting point. Progression through salary ranges can occur via merit increases and step promotions.
Responsibilities- Lead the development and execution of integrated strategies supporting Feeding America’s policy priorities, including federal nutrition programs and anti‑hunger policies.
- Co‑lead efforts with the Advocacy team to mobilize and engage Feeding America’s network of food bank CEOs, partner state associations, and community leaders to advocate for impactful policy and increase the network’s advocacy capacity.
- Inform national office decisions by building deep network engagement into policy priorities and advocacy strategies.
- Integrate and coordinate capacity building and technical assistance to network members that supports federal and state level policy and advocacy engagement.
- Develop resources to support the network and ensure effective coordination in strategy execution and response to evolving issues.
- Coordinate functional support across multiple departments, providing integrated services that build capacity, optimize functionality, and promote engagement.
- Lead, manage, and mentor the Government Affairs and Policy teams, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and accountability.
- Engage broad coalitions, including community organizations, non‑profits, and industry groups, to influence policy decisions supporting hunger‑relief programs such as SNAP and TEFAP.
- Build and sustain relationships across the political spectrum with policymakers, Hill/Administration staff, federal agencies (including USDA), and key external partners.
- Support planning and execution of the annual Lobby Day and related stakeholder events with the Advocacy Team and network leadership.
- Represent Feeding America and its network at governmental hearings, legislative forums, coalition meetings, and key partner engagements.
- Support fund development for Government Relations priorities and collaborate with the development team on donor cultivation, funding proposals, and progress reporting.
- 10+ years of experience in issue/policy advocacy and/or federal and state legislative and regulatory processes.
