Job SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Special Investigator Supervisor, performs statewide, national, and international investigations of highly complex nature involving multiple criminal offenses, with a high degree of independence. Reviews allegations, complaints or other information to determine criminal offenses that may have been committed. Conducts investigations including theft, fraud, embezzlement, forgery, conspiracy, fraudulent schemes, political corruption, etc. Confers with prosecuting attorneys regarding progress of investigations, quality of case files and evidence;
drafts subpoenas, warrants, etc. Prepares affidavits to obtain search warrants, arrest warrants, wiretaps, and court orders. Eligible to gain Arizona POST certification through Waiver Testing in lieu of attending an Arizona Peace Officer basic course if previously served as a peace officer in Arizona with lapsed certification or in another state or federal agency. POPAT is required. Background check and in-state travel are required.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon business needs and performance expectations.

Job Duties- Review information and documents; analyze data; plan case strategy; maintain case files and evidence; prepare case reports.
- Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects (phone or in person). Travel as required (state, interstate, international; may require overnight stays).
- Engage in undercover investigations, surveillance, and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Prepare and serve search warrants; conduct searches; seize and secure evidence. Serve arrest warrants and book suspects.
- Pertinent State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
- Modern law enforcement methods, best practices and procedures.
- Search and Seizure; rules of evidence and custody of prisoners.
- Defensive tactics;
First Aid, CPR; court systems and procedures. - Activity reporting, accountabilities; report writing principles.
- Arizona peace officer certification requirements and related processes.
- Interpreting motor vehicle laws and regulations; eliciting factual information; drawing conclusions.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with staff and the public.
- Use and care of firearms; operating police equipment in emergencies.
- Exercise discretion in use of force; verbal and written communications; reporting.
- Problem solving and sound judgment; training and certification compliance (e.g., CVSA).
- Prepare clear and concise reports; communicate effectively; maintain integrity and teamwork.
- Obtain and maintain CVSA certification; make sound decisions under pressure.
- Operate law enforcement computer systems; maintain firearms certification; interpret laws and regulations.
- Obtain appointment from an Arizona Law Enforcement Agency.
Experience, education, and training in a law enforcement/criminal justice environment resulting in full authority Peace Officer Certifications per AZPOST. Minimum of 3 years in an investigative or detective unit.
Pre-Employment Requirements- AZPOST Full Authority Peace Officer certification.
- Weapons certification per AZ POST standards.
- POPAT required prior to background process.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to drive State business; driver’s license checks and insurance requirements apply.
