Role Summary

Treasury is excited to announce an entry-level Financial Analyst opportunity, ideal for recent graduates or professionals with 1-2 years of experience or more. We are seeking someone who is organized, enjoys learning, is comfortable with technology, and values working collaboratively with others.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in supporting SMUD’s treasury operations by planning and managing work to help ensure timely and accurate cash management, debt management, and other financial processes.
  • Contribute to various projects and daily activities with strong organizational skills and the ability to structure tasks effectively.
  • Work closely with the full Treasury team to gain hands-on experience in areas such as commercial and merchant banking, investment portfolio management, liquidity and cash management, issuing and managing tax-exempt bonds, financial analysis, and risk management.
  • Collaborate in a way that supports SMUD’s financial operations and strategic goals.
  • Be proactive, eager to develop new skills, reliable, and able to communicate effectively across teams.
  • Contribute to solving real-world challenges and making meaningful contributions to SMUD’s financial success.
  • Plan and prioritize work while collaborating with others; be a dependable team player.
Required Education
  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting or related field or equivalent experience. If no degree, five or more (5+) years of relevant experience are required.
Required Experience
  • One or more (1+) years of increasingly responsible relevant work experience in financial forecasting, analysis and modeling, cash management and/or debt management.
Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge Of Safety policies, practices and procedures; standard operating procedures for modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software;
English grammar, punctuation and vocabulary standards; SMUD policies and procedures related to financing and cash management; methods and techniques for report preparation and writing; principles and practices of various analytical approaches; techniques and practices for cost benefit analyses; principles and practices related to financing and cash management; federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations governing municipal finance, investments and operations;

interrelationships between SMUD's operations and external entities; record keeping; financial projections and models; and related financial processes.

Skills Use computer systems and software relevant to the job; communicate effectively in writing and orally; establish and maintain working relationships; prepare technical, statistical and analytical reports and presentations; analyze policies and requirements; gather data; develop viable alternatives; prepare business cases; implement cash flow, banking and investment record keeping systems; maintain financial models.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Some experience in cash management, accounting, ERP financial software (e.g., SAP), spreadsheet analysis, and/or treasury operations, preferably in utilities or public sector.

Hybrid Work
