Accounting Division Business Hours Needed: 7:00am to 5:00pm

The Accounting Division is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Analyst I in the Disbursements Unit. The Operational Accounting Division focuses on the cash collection cycle, procure-to-pay cycle, disbursement cycle (including timely retirement check distributions and member refunds), and contribution accounting.

The Disbursements/Pension Accounts Payable Unit is responsible for member and beneficiary payments, monitoring and reporting of pension disbursement activities, and providing benefit payment support. The unit also issues checks, processes reimbursement claims, and reconciles balances for the Emergency Revolving Fund.

Under the supervision of the Pension Accounts Payable Supervisor, the Analyst I will support the Pension Accounts Payable and the Tax and Research teams in identifying and correcting errors in member payment accounts that impact deduction and withholding amounts and annual tax reporting processes. The Analyst manages incoming inquiries, assigns or responds in a timely manner, and communicates with internal and external partners on status and outcomes.

The analyst performs reconciliations between the pension administration system and the financial system to ensure completeness and accuracy of benefit payment and tax withholding remittance processes.

Ideal candidate skills include:

  • Knowledge of the disbursements process
  • Knowledge of or ability to collect, track, and report data
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Knowledge of tax code, withholding and reporting requirements
  • Experience working with SAP
  • Ability to use software programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power BI and Power Point
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and deadline-driven project completion
  • Analytical problem-solving with ability to develop alternatives and recommend actions
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Commitment to delivering quality service with diplomacy

Every 12 months, based on performance, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until the maximum salary is reached.

:
In July 2025, California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program. The salary ranges shown do not reflect the reduced amounts.

Working Conditions

CalSTRS offers a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work based on business needs.

All staff are employees of the State of California and subject to state employment taxes and with holdings. At appointment, staff are required to provide a current California address to CalSTRS Human Resources to be used as a remote work location.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship by the start date of employment.
