Financial Specialist - Expenditure Review Section

This position is responsible for preserving assigned appropriated funds within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Field Operations Administration. It assists in the oversight and monitoring of expenses and revenues, balance sheet activity, chart of account elements, cost allocation impact and federal reporting requirements. The position is responsible for analyzing and validating specific expenses by fund within the Field Operations Administration and following up with appropriate department personnel.

Working in conjunction with Budget, Program, and Federal Reporting staff, it ensures expenses and revenues are accurate and reported timely. It also coordinates year‑end closing activities of MDHHS’s financial records, performing highly complex transactions under strict deadlines for the Field Operations Administration, and designing and implementing new and revised financial and accounting processes for staff as needed.

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting, finance, and economic courses.

Four years of professional experience equivalent to a Financial Analyst; including two years equivalent to a Financial Analyst P11, Accountant P11, or Auditor P11 or one year equivalent to a Financial Analyst 12, Accountant 12, or Auditor 12. Possession of a Certificate in Public Accounting (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Financial Analyst P11 experience.

The physical location of this position is Grand Tower/Remote. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
