The role

As a Financial Reporting Accountant
, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our Marine, Mission Systems and Nuclear teams within our Finance Business Services (FBS) function. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your technical expertise in a fast‑moving environment where your insights help shape our reporting, strengthen financial controls, and contribute to the wider success of Babcock’s operations across defence, aerospace and engineering.

This six‑month fixed‑term contract provides exposure to a highly skilled finance team and diverse stakeholders across the business giving you the opportunity to grow, develop and make a meaningful impact from day one.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll:

  • Deliver statutory accounts and oversee compliance reporting.
  • Prepare and support information required for corporation tax returns.
  • Support the implementation of statutory accounts software.
  • Ensure timely responses to Internal and External Audit requests.
  • Strengthen finance processes, policies and controls across the FBS team.

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and includes days working from home.

Essential experience for the Financial Reporting Accountant

  • Qualified Accountant or QBE/AAT with relevant experience, or audit experience in practice seeking an industry move (Part Qual considered).
  • Strong technical finance skills, able to interpret accounting principles and prepare statutory accounts.
  • Experience reviewing and improving finance processes.
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio and Outlook.

Qualifications for the Financial Reporting Accountant

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
