We are a fast‑growing ecommerce company seeking a Controller to lead and scale our finance and accounting function as the business continues to grow. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and building scalable processes to support a rapidly expanding organization.
The ideal candidate has strong ecommerce accounting experience, is comfortable working in a high‑growth environment, and has experience with Shopify, Ship Station, and ecommerce financial operations.
This position is hybrid, requiring a combination of in‑office and remote work.
- Lead and manage all day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and monthly close.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Build, improve, and scale financial processes, controls, and systems to support company growth.
- Manage revenue recognition and ecommerce accounting, including reconciliation of Shopify transactions, payment processors, and Ship Station fulfillment data.
- Oversee inventory accounting and cost of goods sold (COGS) reconciliation.
- Ensure accurate sales tax compliance across ecommerce platforms and jurisdictions.
- Prepare and review financial statements, management reporting, and variance analysis.
- Partner with leadership to support financial planning, forecasting, and strategic decision‑making.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other service providers.
- Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies.
- Evaluate and implement financial systems and automation to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Build and mentor the accounting team as the company grows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
- 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong experience in ecommerce accounting environments.
- Direct experience working with Shopify and Ship Station.
- Experience reconciling payment processors (Shopify Payments, Pay Pal, Stripe, etc.).
- Knowledge of inventory and COGS accounting.
- Experience building and improving accounting processes in a high‑growth company.
- Strong understanding of GAAP.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Highly hands‑on and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced entrepreneurial environment.
- Experience working in a high‑growth ecommerce or direct‑to‑consumer company.
- Experience implementing or optimizing ERP/accounting systems.
- Experience managing inventory across multiple fulfillment channels.
