The Opportunity

If you have a passion for speed and precision, consider joining our Finance & Reporting team as our new Apprentice Finance Administrator. This elite team plays a crucial role in maintaining accounting operations by executing swift and efficient financial processing and reporting while minimising errors. You will be confident in the use of finance systems as you will be involved in the workflow for bills and expenses as well as our sales income.

You must be able to apply our internal financial controls correctly, be vigilant to the risk of fraud and accurate in your tax coding! We will train you to handle that. As important is the fact that you will be a strong communicator, self-confident and able to build productive working relationships bank-wide to make sure all co‑workers are trained, challenged and supported to conduct their transactions correctly.

If you are resilient and have no qualms about picking up the phone to talk to people (including our auditors) this is the job for you.

We have a focus on efficiency and where you spot better ways of working you will call them out. We are a team that works at pace so you will be someone who can cope with working fast and hard. The right attitude is key.

After 18 months of working and studying, you should be Level 4 qualified in accounting. This will open doors for the rest of your career.

This is a varied role that offers an excellent platform to develop your career within a well-established and highly regarded Finance team. This vacancy has arisen due to the promotion of the previous apprentice.

We offer flexible hybrid working arrangements – typically requiring two days per week in our Bristol office, with the option to work from home on other days.

Key responsibilities will require you to:
  • Process and reconcile purchase and sales invoices, credit notes, expenses, and credit card claims in line with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and update supplier records, purchase ledger authorisation matrix, and ensure accurate VAT coding and supplier account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and process supplier payments (including weekly BACS runs) and manual payment requests.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing audit files, assisting with audit reviews, and implementing relevant recommendations.
  • Develop strong working relationships across the Bank, coaching and supporting colleagues to adhere to financial processes and policies.
  • Provide ad hoc expenditure analysis, maintain process documentation, and contribute to finance and system improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations, internal governance, and contribute to maintaining up-to-date, user-friendly finance intranet resources.
What We Are Looking For

You have a productive and ‘can do’ attitude and will relish a long ‘To Do’ list. Your work ethic means you feel comfortable in a team that is always busy. Ideally, you will have experience working within a finance team, with a solid understanding of processing transactions. You will be inquisitive and keen to improve our operations. Proficiency in Microsoft applications and finance systems is essential, and you will be looking for ways to speed up our processes using AI.

Core

skills required
  • High levels of accuracy, organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Very good communication skills so that you can support and challenge colleagues at all levels across the bank
  • A strong work ethic and focus on continuous improvement
  • Ability to work to deadlines and perform well under pressure
  • Able to read, analyse and improve control documents (policies, process notes, etc.)
  • Self‑motivation and willingness to take ownership
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively with colleagues in a friendly, professional manner
