Summary
Join our dynamic team at the Enterprise Services Section (ESS) within the Solid Waste Division (SWD) as an Assistant Accountant. This temporary position (up to 2 years, Term‑limited Temporary or Special Duty Assignment) supports DNRP Solid Waste’s mission to deliver exceptional value while improving waste prevention, resource recovery, and waste disposal.
About This RoleYou will oversee all accounts‑payable and receivable transactions, maintain the general ledger, and support the financial functions of the Solid Waste Division. Responsibilities include reviewing A/P for accuracy; managing month‑end and year‑end processes; reconciling financial data across systems; preparing compliant financial documents; and ensuring transparent, high‑integrity reporting.
Job Duties- Manage dump cards issued to customers via the Point‑of‑Sale system.
- Distribute dump cards to the correct transfer stations based on material types.
- Maintain accurate material types and processed dump cards.
- Support Scale Operators by preventing billing discrepancies.
- Visit Bowlake Transfer Station weekly to oversee dump card processes.
- Review and approve Invoice Requisition s and King County Expense Reports.
- Facilitate timely payments to suppliers and vendors.
- Provide day‑to‑day workflow support and relief for the AP & AR section as workload requires.
- Experience in finance/accounting or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience with automated financial and reporting systems.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, CSV, VLOOKUP).
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Teams, Outlook, Word, and Adobe Pro.
- Strong customer‑service orientation and interpersonal skills.
- Accounting degree and 2+ years of governmental accounting/finance experience.
- 3+ years with automated financial and reporting systems.
- 2+ years in a customer‑service related role, preferably in accounting/finance.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel.

- Hybrid model: office at King Street Center, Seattle; remote work possible based on business needs.
- Full‑time, 40 hours/week. Covered under FLSA and overtime eligible.
