Our current Director of Finance & Accounting, who has been a valued leader for 20 years, plans to retire in March 2026. We are seeking a replacement who possesses the financial acumen, executive leadership, and critical thinking skills necessary to grow with the company and become a key leader on our executive team.
This is a unique opportunity to join an established, high-performing company during a pivotal growth phase, taking ownership of the entire finance and administration function and quickly moving into a top-two executive role.
The Director, Finance & Accounting will be responsible for the integrity of our clients financial and administrative operations. The role is designed for a leader ready to assume greater executive responsibilities as the company scales.
Phase I:Initial Functional Responsibilities
The successful candidate will immediately own and execute the following core functions:
- Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Create and maintain sophisticated financial models to support forecasting, budgeting, and business valuations for existing and new ventures.
- Financial Management & Reporting: Prepare accurate, timely, consolidated, and entity-level monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Process accounts payable. Ensure strict compliance with all internal and external accounting standards.
- Audit & Internal Controls: Conduct on-site financial controls audits at managed properties and prepare all necessary supporting documentation for ownership and special reports.
- Administrative Oversight: Supervise the accounts payable process, manage credit card administration, and ensure accurate record-keeping and reconciliation of all transactions.
- Data Administration: Administer the company's data lake (housed in Drop Box and MS One Drive), ensuring data integrity, controlled accessibility, and security for all Company records.
- Human Resources: Supervise the Company's PEO (LBMC Employment Partners) on all HR-related matters, including payroll, benefits administration, and compliance.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay informed on industry trends and best practices in finance, technology, and reporting to drive process and team excellence.
Future Executive & Treasury Functions
Upon establishing a proven track record, the role and title are expected to expand rapidly to include the following executive and treasury functions:
- Lender Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for all lenders and servicing agents. Manage relationships and ensure full compliance with loan covenants and reporting requirements.
- Treasury & Capital Management: Oversee daily treasury activities, including cash management, forecasting, and investment decisions. Manage the company's capital structure and optimize liquidity. Calculate and administer cash distributions to Ownership.
- Risk Management: Conduct annual reviews of all Property Insurance Policies to ensure competitive premiums, adequate coverage, and compliance with all Loan Covenants.
- Tax Coordination: Coordinate with the external Accounting Firm (Carr Riggs and Ingram) to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of tax returns, K-1's, and other tax requirements.
- Strategic Analysis: Conduct ad hoc financial analysis and prepare detailed reports for executives and ownership to support strategic decision-making (e.g., profitability, capital expenditure reviews, scenario modeling).
- Executive Leadership & Strategy: In partnership with the Chief Operating Officer, provide overall executive leadership to businesses, guiding them toward continuous improvement in customer satisfaction and wealth creation.

- Future Reporting: Directly to a board consisting of 2 or more Company Owners.
- Growth Trajectory: As the company scales, the successful candidate will recruit, train, and direct a small team of regional financial managers overseeing accounting for additional self-storage properties.

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required.
- An MBA is a decided plus.
- Advanced Financial Modeling: Demonstrated advanced skill level in Microsoft Excel, to be evaluated via pre-hiring testing.
- Self-Discipline & Time Management: Proven ability to work remotely and independently with the self-discipline to maintain a professional, distraction-free home office and communicate effectively with all stakeholders virtually.
- Professional Communication & Judgment: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for preparing and presenting concise, creative reports.
