Role Summary/Purpose
The role of Bank Fraud Prevention Manager will drive the Consumer Bank Credit SHIELD program – creating and maintaining industry-standard real-time digital fraud controls for Synchrony Bank. This role is critical in the maintenance and launch of products and services and enabling enhanced customer experiences. It includes identification, development and maintenance of optimized fraud rules and strategies in close collaboration with business partners.
Solutions will ensure appropriate scalability and business optimization to maximize fraud prevention within Synchrony’s chosen risk appetite.
The Bank Fraud Prevention Manager will develop and define digital fraud user stories to enable industry-standard fraud controls for current and future product and service launches, provide leadership on AI and machine learning solutions, own risk assessments, and manage a small team of Product Owners and Fraud Strategy resources in an Agile environment. The role collaborates with vendors, internal stakeholders, and business product owners to optimize fraud controls, manage vendor contracts, drive compliance, and present findings to executive and senior management.

Essential Responsibilities- Act as SHIELD Bank Fraud Lead and subject‑matter expert, developing and defining digital fraud user stories for product launches.
- Provide independent leadership and strategies to leverage new and existing AI and machine learning, fraud detection, mitigation solutions, alert and case management workflow, and automated reporting.
- Own the development, implementation, and ongoing execution of periodic digital fraud risk assessments.
- Act as Product Manager and direct a small team of Product Owners and Fraud Strategy resources in an Agile development environment.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to leverage data, continually optimize fraud controls, and minimize false positives while protecting customers and enabling business growth.
- Manage vendor contracts, invoices, and relationships.
- Act as liaison with business product owners and technical partners to provide fraud expertise in Agile processes.
- Cultivate and collaborate on new Bank products, controls approvals, and ongoing compliance.
- Ensure solution compliance with SYF Bank Fraud Policies, Model Risk Management, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive enhancements to training, communications, and procedures for Fraud Analytics, Operations, and related functions.
- Proactively research and identify opportunities for digital fraud performance improvement, working with Analytics and Fraud Operations teams.
- Prepare and deliver executive and senior management presentations to share results, drive strategy buy‑in, and facilitate informed decisions.
- Serve as stand‑in leader for Consumer Bank Credit and Fraud as needed.
- Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
- Tenured banking professional with 5+ years overall financial services experience and 3+ years in bank fraud expertise and development.
- Expert knowledge of bank fraud systems, transactions, and vendor tools such as AI/Machine learning, Fast money movement wire/P2P/ACH, Data Visor, Truvalidate, Sentilink, Lexis Nexis.
- Extensive familiarity with bank product fraud taxonomy and associated trends, particularly in non‑customer‑facing or digital channels.
- Deep understanding of banking industry operating rules and standards across payment networks (ACH, Wire, Check, Zelle, Card, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of consumer banking fraud compliance and related regulations.
- People‑management experience, directly managing a team of fraud risk analysts and supervisors.
- Experience working in an Agile development process environment.
- Experience with business risk and control best practices.
- Analytical/critical thinker; customer‑experience focused; strong teamwork, communication, and networking skills.
