Financial Accountant

Main Duties:
As a Financial Accountant, your main duties include:
Maintain accurate, timely financial records and support the Head of Finance across day-to-day financial accounting activities. Deliver the monthly close, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis. Prepare VAT returns and support wider tax reporting requirements. Produce monthly management accounts, forecasts, cash flow reports and supporting analysis. Maintain budgets and forecasts, ensuring all entries are supported by clear working papers for audit and review.

Ensure effective reconciliations between finance systems and related operational systems. Support year-end processes, including statutory accounts, audits and external reporting. Identify and manage financial risks, maintaining strong financial controls and value for money. Review monthly payroll outputs to resolve issues prior to payment. Prepare KPI and management reporting for senior stakeholders. Support business planning, budgeting and scenario modelling. Line manage and support a junior finance team member and provide cover across the wider finance team as required.

Location / Office / Culture The role offers a hybrid working pattern, with three days per week based in the company’s modern Shrewsbury office and the remainder working from home. What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate will have:
Ideally ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified, though qualified by experience candidates with strong financial accounting experience are equally considered. Solid background in financial accounting, including month-end close, reconciliations and management accounts. Confident with VAT preparation and supporting statutory and audit processes. Hands-on, detail-focused and comfortable working in a growing SME environment. A collaborative, reliable team player who aligns with a values-led, ethical culture.
