The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting function, assisting with financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and contributing to process improvements as the company grows. This position plays a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, compliance with accounting standards, and operational scalability within a dynamic lending environment.
The role requires expertise in accounting operations, financial reporting, GAAP compliance, internal controls, and cross-functional collaboration to drive accurate and timely financial outcomes aligned with Greenbox Capital’s mission and growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities and DutiesThe percentages below represent an estimate of how time is allocated across primary functions. Actual time may vary depending on business needs.
Accounting Operations & Financial Close- Oversee and participate in day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
- Own the month‑end close process, including account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to support internal decision‑making and leadership oversight.
- Maintain and continuously strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in alignment with GAAP.
- Serve as a key point of contact for external auditors and lead audit preparation and follow‑ups.
- Ensure accounting practices remain compliant with applicable regulatory and financial reporting requirements.
- Evaluate current accounting processes and systems to identify and implement improvements.
- Drive automation and scalability to support a growing company environment.
- Participate in and support strategic and ad‑hoc projects such as ERP enhancements, system migrations, acquisition integration, or new product launches.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Operations, Lending, Executive teams, Asset Servicing, HR, Legal, Finance Consultants, External Auditors, and the Leadership Team to ensure financial integrity and alignment.
- Provide support and oversight to junior accounting team members and contribute to their development.
- Ensure accounting decisions consider the broader operational and business impact across departments.
- CPA required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a similar capacity.
- Experience with Quick Books or similar accounting software.
- Experience working in banking, lending, or financial institutions preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting systems such as Quick Books or similar accounting software.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards (GAAP/IFRS).
- Experience overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, and financial statement preparation.
- Ability to evaluate and improve accounting processes, implement automation, and support ERP or system enhancements.
- Strong understanding of internal control frameworks and audit processes.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial issues and make sound, detail‑oriented decisions.
- Comfortable operating in dynamic and evolving environments; maintains productivity and clarity when faced with ambiguity and adapts quickly to shifting priorities without losing momentum.
