The Role at a GlanceAs a reinsurance accountant you will play a key role in maintaining accurate and compliant reinsurance financial records while working on complex and meaningful accounting activities. You will prepare and analyze transactions, reconcile accounts, review financial reports and resolve discrepancies, all while strengthening internal controls and supporting SOX compliance. Your work will help ensure the financial integrity of our reinsurance operations and provide valuable insights across the organization.
You will also gain hands‑on experience administering strategic reinsurance treaties, performing cash settlements, collaborating with auditors and contributing to projects that enhance processes and improve efficiency. What you’ll be doing- Prepares, records, analyzes and reports strategic reinsurance accounting transactions and ensures the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies & principles.
- Provides accurate and timely reinsurance treaty administration which includes cash settlements and analyzing & validating data.
- Performs reinsurance accounting activities including preparing, classifying, recording, maintaining & reconciling General Ledger accounts, sub‑ledgers & subsystems while conducting quality assurance checks on their journal entries and work papers.
- Identifies, researches and resolves discrepancies or out of balance situations amongst assigned General Ledger Accounts, subaccounts & subsystems.
- Identifies accounting issues/concerns & recommends mitigation solution(s) to management.
- Researches and provides input related to complex accounting impacts on new & existing strategic reinsurance structures/transactions.
- Develops processes to ensure internal controls & SOX compliance and provides ongoing assessment of effectiveness.
- Identifies and resolves complex issues with internal and/or external auditors in a collaborative manner.
- Prepares financial reports, accounting statements and foot note information for SEC, GAAP & statutory reporting.
- Consults on, conducts and/or participates in accounting projects.
- Communicates with third party reinsurers on identified discrepancies and resolves in a collaborative & timely fashion.
Must-Haves
- 3-5+ Years experience in finance directly aligned to the specific responsibilities for this role
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or similar field or equivalent work experience
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to influence management/critical stakeholders
- Analytical skills and close attention to detail is necessary
- Ability to adapt quickly in a changing work environment
Nice-to-Haves
- CPA preferred
