Tax Manager

We are seeking a full-time Tax Manager with a minimum of seven years’ practice experience. The successful candidate will report directly to partner level. CTA qualification is preferred, although qualified by experience candidates will be considered. The role will involve providing technical advisory support, responding to tax technical queries from other departments, and reviewing complex tax returns. The client base includes private individuals, owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurs, charities, and large limited companies across a wide range of industries.

The successful candidate will be positive, independent, and proactive, with strong communication skills and the confidence to build relationships with clients and senior stakeholders. A commercial approach is essential, along with the ability to meet deadlines and budgets. You will be self-motivated, able to use your initiative, and capable of working with minimal supervision. You will manage your own client portfolio, maintaining strong client relationships and keeping both clients and partners informed of relevant matters.

The role also includes mentoring and developing junior staff.

• Manage and add value to business relationships

You will have experience managing a portfolio of clients, including individuals, sole traders, partnerships, and trusts. A strong technical and commercial grounding in tax is essential, with the ability to provide practical solutions to client issues.

• Inheritance tax planning, including lifetime planning and reliefs such as Business Property Relief
• Income tax planning, including loss relief and pension relief
• Share schemes such as EMI and CSOP
• Corporation tax treatment of expenditure
• VAT implications of transactions
• Stamp Duty Land Tax and ATED, including relevant reliefs
• Tax planning for non-UK domiciled individuals
• Capital gains tax planning, including Business Asset Disposal Relief, Principal Private Residence Relief, rollover relief, and gift relief
• Venture capital schemes including EIS and SEIS, and advanced assurance applications
• Tax clearances relating to corporate restructuring and transactions
• Preparing, reviewing, and submitting Research & Development (R&D) claims to HMRC
• Anti-avoidance provisions, including transactions in securities and relevant TCGA provisions

• Excellent knowledge of CCH software
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
