Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Debt & Money Adviser to cover a maternity leave. This is a fixed‑term contract for maternity cover and ending on the return of the permanent employee, anticipated to be around 12 months depending on the start date.

The service aims to support all council tax payers of Barnsley, especially those identified as having financial or potential financial vulnerabilities, by providing a confidential financial health check that includes income maximisation and debt/money advice as appropriate.

• Deliver advice via telephone, email, video and face‑to‑face to Barnsley tax payers.
• Work from home and in an office setting.
• Advise clients in all social welfare categories of law, focusing on debt and money management.

• At least 1 year of experience delivering general debt advice, with completed training to the Advice Quality Standard, or willingness to undertake such training.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships with external partners.
• Good understanding of interviewing skills.
