R&D Tax Associate | UK Remote | Tech-Led Advisory Firm
The UK tech sector is scaling fast and the firms supporting it need to scale smarter.
We’re hiring for a technology‑led tax and advisory firm built specifically to support high‑growth, innovation‑driven businesses. The firm combines premium client service with modern systems, automation and commercial thinking, removing low‑value work so advisers can focus on judgement, relationships and impact.
This is not a traditional accountancy practice. It’s a remote‑first, tech‑enabled business deliberately designed around how professional services should work in 2026 and beyond.
The RoleAs an R&D Tax Associate, you’ll take ownership of R&D tax work for a portfolio of fast‑moving, innovation‑led clients.
You’ll be the primary point of contact, working directly with founders, engineers and finance leads to understand what’s been built, why it qualifies, and how to present it clearly and defensibly. The role offers genuine autonomy and suits someone comfortable operating without constant supervision in a remote environment.
Although R&D tax is the core focus, the role naturally broadens over time into areas such as:
- Growth and investment‑related tax work (EIS / SEIS)
- Share incentives and equity planning
- Wider advisory topics relevant to scaling, owner‑managed businesses
You’ll also play a part in shaping how R&D services are delivered, improving workflows, templates and internal guidance as the firm grows.
What You’ll Spend Your Time Doing- Owning R&D tax claims from initial scoping through to submission
- Running client conversations with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Turning complex development activity into clear technical narratives
- Analysing costs and preparing compliant, well‑evidenced claims
- Dealing directly with HMRC queries and correspondence
- Supporting equity‑related filings and incentive schemes
- Contributing to better, more scalable ways of working
This role has a high level of trust and autonomy, so the following experience is essential:
- At least 3 years’ R&D tax experience gained within a UK tax practice or R&D specialist
- Currently studying ATT / CTA (minimum ATT), or ACCA qualified with willingness to pursue tax qualifications
- Strong technical understanding of how R&D tax claims are identified, prepared and defended
- Ability to communicate technical positions clearly — both in writing and on client calls
- Proven experience managing deadlines and competing priorities independently
- Established, long‑term homeworking experience within a UK practice (non‑Covid)
Experience working with start‑ups, scale‑ups or technology‑led businesses is highly advantageous.
Location & Working Model- Fully remote role (UK‑based only)
- Right to work in the UK required
- Long‑term homeworking experience is essential
