We have a fantastic opportunity to join Sovereign Network Group (SNG) in this new role as Senior Accountant – Community Foundation on a permanent basis, to provide finance support to SNG's newly established Community Foundation.

Based from our office in Basingstoke
, you'll combine office and home working in line with our hybrid approach, with occasional travel to other sites.

The Role

Reporting into the Head of Financial Accounting and working closely with the Senior Finance Business Partner – Customer, you ll support the newly established Community Foundation on all finance matters. You ll be responsible for the integrity of the general ledger and management accounts, ensuring efficient and effective control over monthly, quarterly and yearly end accounts production, budgeting and forecasting, statutory accounts production, balance sheet reconciliations, month end processes and any associated board pack production.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsibility for the accuracy of the general ledger of the Community Foundation, ensuring that effective procedures are in place and all errors are identified and corrected
  • Ensuring that accounting controls for the bank accounts, purchase ledger, sales ledger and group consolidations associated with the Community Foundation are effectively maintained
  • Developing close connections with Directors and Heads of service across the Community Foundation, acting as a trusted partner to proactively provide advice, support, and opinion on all financial matters related to the Community Foundation
  • Ensuring robust inter-company accounting procedures are in place and adhered to across SNG and that all inter-company accounts are reconciled with other subsidiary companies
  • Working closely with the FP&A teams on the production of the monthly management accounts (where applicable) for all SNG Community Foundations activities to ensure timely and accurate submission to the executive board and SNG board
  • Delivering robust analysis and commentary explaining monthly performance variances against budgets and forecasts, highlighting risks and opportunities, and supporting the business with budget preparation and forecasting
  • Preparing and producing annual statutory accounts for the Community Foundation, liaising with external auditors where required
What we're looking for

You should be a fully qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA) with demonstrable post qualification experience gained from within the charity sector or similar area. You ll also need:

  • Detailed understanding of relevant legislation and accounting principles for charities (Charities SORP, FRS
    102)
  • Strong, clear working knowledge of processes and controls surrounding financial accounting and management account preparation, including detailed report writing and analysis
  • Strong, clear working knowledge of management information report writing and design, including detailed variance analysis
  • Experience of business partnering and senior stakeholder management and collaboration
  • To be highly numerate with strong IT skills, including MS Word and MS Excel
  • Strong communication skills, being able to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience of working to tight deadlines through monthly, quarterly and yearly cycles
  • Extensive knowledge of ERP Accounting systems, with experience in Workday being advantageous
