The Financial Controller will ensure that Digital Nova Scotia has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits.
Responsibilities Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
Coordinate all audit activity.
Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the non-profit industry association’s financial status.
Work closely with program leaders and their staff, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations.
Partner with the CEO, board of directors, senior leadership, human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.
Develop and maintain the budget and financial plan for Digital Nova Scotia.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA preferred.
5+ years progressive accounting experience, partnering with senior/executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of financial management strategies.
Previous controller experience is an asset.
Must be able to work independently as well as work effectively as part of a team. Detail oriented individual with strong organizational skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
Experience with Quick Books Online preferred.
Experience in a non-profit industry association preferred.
Experience in a federal and/or provincial award environment preferred.
