Our Work:
We are seeking an experienced financial professional to join our team and support the Dean’s Office and other central units. The Financial Manager will provide specialized finance expertise, manage end-to-end finance functions, budgeting and forecasting, data models, reporting, internal controls, and labor schedule management. This role will have programmatic impact on the School of Medicine.

Responsibilities

The Financial Manager engages with Senior Associate Deans and Program Directors within the School of Medicine and Stanford’s hospitals. This is a prominent role with potential for future promotion. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage all financial activities for senior stakeholders in the Dean’s Office, including the Vice Dean, Senior Associate Deans, Officers, and other leaders and stakeholders.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on complex technical, financial, or subject matter issues.
  • Lead financial analyses to assess budgets, year-end projections, ad hoc projects, and reconciliations in collaboration with senior stakeholders.
  • Lead the annual budget submission process in the Dean’s Office and manage the year-end budget process, including scenario planning with SoM Leadership.
  • Perform analytical reviews of financial data, develop solutions, and conduct multi-dimensional reconciliations; develop monthly reporting and communicate recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Provide strategic analyses for senior leadership presentations and consolidate data for clear, actionable insights.
  • Act as a steward of University resources, ensuring funds are used appropriately and in compliance with policies and donor intent.
  • Provide strategic support to the Dean’s Office by identifying issues and developing solutions to resolve discrepancies in processes.
  • Design and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures; support compliance programs.
  • Lead special projects impacting the School of Medicine, such as developing a Business Expense Guidelines for Finance Departments school-wide.
  • Collaborate with Hospitals to create and execute complex financial agreements.
  • Continuously analyze existing systems and processes; lead process improvement efforts and test system upgrades and new tools.
  • Establish procedures, policies, training, and standards to ensure financial systems and reporting tools comply with University policies; coach administrative staff on policy and system changes.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • Technical finance knowledge.
  • Google Sheets.
  • Ability to interpret and apply advanced accounting knowledge within GAAP.
  • Knowledge of Oracle/OBI or other business financial systems.
  • Advanced analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.
  • Understanding of fund accounting and the operations of a medical school.
Education & Experience (required)

Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP and financial systems; strong internet and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of GAAP.
