Investment Analyst

Variant is an approximately $3 billion private credit asset manager focusing on niche asset-based lending transactions. The firm’s investment activity has a global reach and is centered on the fast-growing lender finance market. Variant manages three alternative income funds, one of which has a dedicated impact mandate. Founded in 2017, the firm is entrepreneurial and looking to add talent to its diverse team to accelerate strategic growth.

Variant operates out of Portland, Oregon with remote workers around the U.S.

• Support financial, operational, and commercial due diligence for direct origination credit facilities, including drafting investment memoranda and documenting the diligence process.
• Support transaction structuring and execution, including coordination with legal counsel, review of credit agreements and ancillary documentations, and management of closing deliverables.
• Prepare and maintain complex asset-based lending and cash flow models to support investment theses for esoteric asset classes.
• Contribute to macroeconomic and idiosyncratic risk analysis to support investment theses.
• Monitor current investments, including financial performance and borrowing base analysis of collateral pools supporting credit facilities.
• Support other ongoing asset management activities, including but not limited to ongoing covenant compliance, amendment negotiations, and active management of underperforming assets.
• Build and manage analytic, business intelligence, and process improvement tools focused on investment planning, liquidity management, CRM and portfolio level risks.
• Assist with fund-level performance monitoring, attribution, and analysis across underlying investments and strategies.
• Participate in investment committee meetings and prepare related documentation.

• Minimum bachelor’s degree; major in finance or economics preferred
• Familiarity with the private credit space; experience in asset-based lending is a plus
• Experience developing proprietary models in Excel and analyzing robust financial models
• Extremely detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• Strong written and communication skills
• Experience working with database management software (i.e., Salesforce)
• Ability to analyze situations in a time-sensitive manner and execute appropriate responses
• Ability to manage multiple work streams across diligence, execution, and post-closing monitoring
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
